Travel insurance review – Reasons to have Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance Review – A little reading experience that I had today shocked me when I visited a blog that said people did not need travel insurance when traveling abroad. I am going to give you seven reasons off the top of head why this is not true.

First though, a little background about me. I became a health and life insurance agent in the summer of 2000. I have helped 100′s of clients with the health and Life Insurance needs (Primarily Life Insurance), but I speak with experience.

Here are the seven reasons you need Travel Insurance Overseas (or domestically):

1. You cancel your trip (you will get a refund if you have travel insurance)
2. Lost luggage (this has happened to me 2 times)
3. If there is a provision for health insurance abroad, it is really usually a very small benefit amount. It is rare that there is a provision at all.
4. Destination limitations – Hospitals and medical providers in certain areas of the world will not accept insurance from The United States and parts of Europe. They may not even take credit cards either.
5. Liability – Health care policies in general do not offer this provision.
6. Credit Card policy coverage. Wow big mistake, the terms and conditions on this type of policy are slim at best.
7. Medical Evacuation – Most Health Insurance policies do not cover emergency medical evacuation. This could cost you up to $20,000, depending on where you are when a medical situation pops up.

Always have travel insurance, 99.99% of the time your employer based health will not cover you well enough or at all. Travelers with government insurance need to ask as many question as possible for Medicare/Medicaid.

There was one good point on that blog was this, senior citizens should check with AARP for information about foreign medical care coverage with Medicare supplement plans.

Squaremouth is a wonderful Travel Insurance comparison site. Look at their website; you need to register to get more information, but it only take a minute or two. The resources and information can prove valuable to you.

Here is one more quick and little tip. Always bring your insurance claim form with you when you purchase travel insurance.

I hope you like this little travel insurance review, until next time. If you want to be updated when this blog gets updated fill in the form below. Remember we dislike spam too; we will never give away your private information.

Travel Insurance Reviews – Healthcare Overseas

Will Your Current Health or Medical Insurance Cover You When You Travel Overseas?

In my travel insurance reviews I like to discuss current topics, so here we go, today’s topic is Health Care (In relation to Travel Insurance). Health Insurance is a touchy subject these days. In fact, today President Obama after a meeting with health care officials declared that our current health care situation is critical. What does this mean? Here are some quick stats.

  - Over half of ALL Americans Do Not have health insurance to begin with.

  - Most have Health insurance plans that as a byproduct can cause them to go into bankruptcy.

  - Healthcare Savings Plans (with a high deductible health insurance plan) can actually save you money here in the United States, but are essentially useless outside of the country.

  - Employer Sponsored Health Care are charging more and offering less coverage.

Now let’s just assume that is you are able to travel overseas, you can afford health insurance. Now let me ask you another question (Remember, nowhere on this site am I trying to sell you travel insurance). Do you think it is better overseas?

Not really, because if you plan on traveling it is an absolute need to have specific insurance to cover you. Here are some of the reasons:

 - Most employer sponsored health insurance will not provide coverage overseas. (Check your policy)

 - Almost 100% of all HMO Health Insurance plan will not cover you when traveling abroad.

 - Depending on the country, government health care programs (Like Medicare) will not cover you even in an emergency.

 - Getting decent health care can be difficult at best, depending on where you are going.

 - Some hospitals don’t take credit cards to cover treatment. Even if they do, will you credit limit be high enough to cover you? DO you really want to put thousands of dollars on your credit card?

 - Some hospitals will not release you until the bill is paid in full or there is a guarantee of payment.

Those are just the major things you need to prepare. You may find it hard to believe that some people just leave all of this to fate. Don’t do that, you could pay dearly if you do.

You can buy travel insurance to cover more than just health. Liability issues are another major concern, but are not the focus of this article. I mention that so that you will be aware. It our sincere hope that these Travel Insurance Reviews help you in your decision making process. We update this site 3 to 5 days a week, so stop back again soon.

Travel Insurance Review

Travel Insurance Review

travel insurance review helps people to understand that things can go wrong on your vacation. When things happen outside our control “regular” insurance may not cover you. Here are some realistic examples:

- Have your luggage lost or stolen

- Get in a car accident

- Become sick or ill

- Having your credit cards stolen

- God forbid, you or someone in your group dies I am sure you would agree that these things could happen and do happen often.

Most people don’t take a travel insurance policy, most don’t even look into it and some don’t know about it. For those who know about travel insurance, some opt out of getting it because they think their regular health insurance will cover sickness on the vacation. When traveling out of the United States most of the time you are not covered. Call your carrier an ask whether you have coverage. It is our opinion that Travel insurance is essential.

There are so many scenarios that it is almost impossible to cover all the reasons why you need travel insurance. Tip number one: if you are planning to do any (or similar) activities structure your travel insurance to cover you. these activities can include: Skiing, horse riding, jet skiing, scuba diving, race car driving school (This is awesome by the way, there is one in Las Vegas) or more.

With any policy that you take, thoroughly read it for exclusions and limitations. If you have any questions about your policy, simply call your provider. But you say, “I am going on a golfing trip, why would I carry travel insurance for that kind of a trip?” Good question. What if you injure someone else with a well (or poor) hit ball? Would you be covered? What if they went to hospital? (some policies don’t cover other people, so always read your policy.)

The point is this (this pertains to any insurance)… Insurance is about the unknown, you never know when something bad is going to happen to you or you may cause an accident. Cover yourself. Now I know it sounds like I am selling something, I’m not. I just want to thank you for visiting Travel Insurance Review.
